Debbie never questioned if she would pursue the arts, she lived in my high school art room, she took adult art classes after school when she was 16 and went on to earn a bachelor's degree in Fine Arts at a local Art College. From there she dove into photography and made a nice career for 17 years. After putting down the camera, she became a Director of an Art Education facility in Raleigh, NC that offered year-round art camps, art lessons, and events.

She has been featured nine times at the National Storytelling Festival – mostly recently in 2023 – and has performed across the US, in Canada, Europe and Asia. She has released numerous, award-winning, storytelling recordings on the Kind Crone label.
Milbre is a Georgia girl who married a Mississippi boy in New England. She and her husband, Berkley Hudson, began their family in Southern California before moving to the Piedmont of North Carolina so Berkley could get a PhD in Media Studies from UNC. Since Milbre got her Bachelor’s Degree from “the other school,” their two daughters wore one light blue and one dark blue shoelace when they played soccer in the Triangle.
The family moved to mid-Missouri in 2003. There Berkley taught at the nation’s oldest journalism school and Milbre got her PhD in Theatre and performance Studies from the University of Missouri. The two moved back to Chapel Hill in 2018 and are glad to be home.
They are especially glad when their daughters visit from LA and DC.
